Sep 09, 2009 Jen Offers Advice In Good Morning America

Cameron Mathison, daytime soap hunk from All My Children, got the chance to interview Jennifer Aniston about her new movie, Love Happens, for Good Morning America on September 9. Aniston was asked many questions about her views on relationships since her new movie, which opens on September 18, centers around the drama of finding love and opening yourself up to another person.

The character she plays, Eloise, is a successful florist, but has a challenging lovelife. Aniston says, “She (Eloise) does have a little spunk to her…She’s in a place in her life where she has not chosen well on the romantic front.”

During one scene in the movie, Eloise pretends to be deaf to ward off the advances of Dr. Burke Ryan (Aaron Eckhart). Mathison asks Jennifer if she herself has ever pretended to be deaf to get ride of a guy and Aniston replies, “No, I have not, but I thought that was kind of clever.”

Mathison starts quoting Aniston about relationships from other interviews. Aniston jokes, “I love how you quote me like I’m some life guru.”

Mathison continues to press Aniston on her own views on love:
“Love brings up everything unlike itself,” Aniston explains. “It’s the challenges, it’s your fears, it’s your self-doubts, the other person’s doubts and I think that’s the purpose of being in a relationship, to sort of get through those and you just continue to grow and co-create. And it’s not easy, because some of us, we’re squirming our way out of here because not everyone wants to deal with all that.”

When asked if she gives advice to her friends, Jennifer answers: “I am the go-to girl a lot, but I also love that. I love helping friends. I’ve been the recipient of great information and advice and I’ve been the giver of it.”

To break through the brick walls or obstacles that come up in love and relationships, Aniston says, “I think you have to know that you have a brick wall to break through… start with just knowing it.”

When asked what advice 40-year-old Jen would give 20-year old Jen, Aniston remarks, “Enjoy your life. I think we have such angst in our 20s and in our 30s even. And if I felt as good at 30 as I do at 40, I would have probably enjoyed myself a hell of a lot more.”

Where do you see yourself in 20 years? “I don’t. I don’t ever look past tomorrow. Although I know next Tuesday I have a premiere,” she laughs. “I’m looking that far”.

The premiere for Love Happens takes place in Hollywood on Tuesday, September 15.
